Big Mosaics

Big Mosaics was started in 2006, and also is a relatively new mosaic company. Originally named Wedding Mosaics, the company changed its name to Big Mosaics to appeal to a wider audience. Little is know about this company besides what is on there "About Us" page. Our numerous attempts of trying to contact the company for more information only resulted in continuous unanswered voicemails. If we eventually get through, we will post more.

Our Review:
From their online examples, we were somewhat hopeful of this companies product; the source clarity seemed quite refined (almost too refined). After placing an order, we uploaded our images. We struggled somewhat with there online uploading page, but eventually were able to get our photos to Big Mosaics. We did send an email to the company to ensure that the photos were received, however we did not receive a reply.
After about 2 weeks we received our mosaic and our first impression was that the cells were very very small, about 3 to 5 times smaller than any other mosaic company we reviewed. This highly disappointed us as the entire goal of a photo mosaic is to be able to see all of the small photos clearly and easily. We even tried to use a magnifying glass, however the dpi (resolution) of the mosaic was not high enough see the cell images any better. Additionally, we quickly noticed that all of our photos were cropped to squares, this unfortunately is not something we wanted or requested. This undesired cropping removed important people out of our photos. Lastly, we also observed that there was a slight overuse of cell colorization that also degraded the overall mosaic effect.

The Verdict: Although the overall source resemblance looks good, the cell photos are too small to make the mosaic worth displaying.

I really wish I found this site before I ordered, but after reading the reviews here it looks like everyone made the same mistake. I didn't look at any of the other companies before ordering, so I had the idea that Big Mosaics was pretty standard. My post-research has me thinking otherwise.

As far as ordering, I didn't really have a tough time. It took a moment, but was fairly straight forward. What upset me, that I found out after the fact, was the additional cost for more photos! After I found this site I said "well at least Big Mosaics wasn't as expensive as others". Then I noticed that other companies actually encourage more photos without additional charges!! With the amount of photos I had it ended up MORE expensive than other sites.

The overall product was bittersweet. The source image was crystal clear and looked amazing from a distance. Unfortunately, the smaller images were so tiny and grainy they were damaging to squint at. I might as well just bought a poster of the picture I wanted and hung that up instead. If you can't tell it's a mosaic until you're on top of it, whats the point?

I don't know if I'll ever have another mosaic made, but if I do I will be trying another company.

In my quick haste to get a mosaic completed as a gift, I hired BigMosaics to create a mosaic for me...HOWEVER, I should have looked closer at their examples! The cell photos that made up the mosaic where so tiny that I had to use a magnify glass to see them. It was supposed to be a 50th Anniversary gift, however my parents would never be able to see these tiny photos. It is a shame I did not find this site first!

I was initially drawn in by the low pricing, however there were hidden fees that added up quick. I had over 500 photos to use for the mosaic, however when ordering this added an additional $75 to my order. I was not very happy with the fact that I had to pay extra to have all of my photos in the mosaic. My total price was now $174.95 for a 24"x36" mosaic.
After finally submitting my photos which took several tries, I was sent my mosaic preview within about a week. I was not happy at all - it was very un-artistic and cold. I was really hoping for something that was vivid and had some artistic style. I rejected the preview and requested my money back. I plan to try another service.

I was hoping to give a mosaic as a gift, however after receiving the mosaic I was unable give the mosaic because of small cells and poor clarity. Overall I am very unsatisfied with the service.
I wish I would have found this site first ;-( ...hopefully this review serves as a warning.

From their website examples, it seemed like the they offered a good looking product. However after receiving the mosaic print, the cells were too small and very difficult to see. I tried contacting the the company to see if something could be done, however they told me that after I received my mosaic print I could not return it! Now I am stuck with a mosaic that I can't use without a magnifying glass. I am am very disappointed and feel taken advantage of.
